“Bipolar House” To Be Filmed For Pilot!

A friend I grew up with works at a Hollywood television network. A couple years ago I emailed my reality show concept to him and he shared it with a Bravo producer. The idea went nowhere…until now.
Bravo Television has selected Bipolar House: Rapid Cyclers Edition for a pilot production!
Because the cast features major celebrity names, Bipolar House has a shot at coming to your television screen in 2018!
Here’s the original concept:
BIPOLAR HOUSE: Rapid Cyclers Edition
Hosted by Adam Ant, Musical Icon & Bestselling Author of Stand & Deliver
Mental Health Advocate Adam Ant is still cutting albums at age 61!
Join Bipolar House Leaders Demi Lovato and Tom Cruise on a one-of-a-kind adventure you’ll never forget!

Be a fly on the wall in a cramped West Hollywood home occupied by six celebrities who have bipolar disorder!

There’s never a dull moment at Bipolar House…

Bipolar House’s intrepid participants have been given the immense challenge of creating a benefit concert.

Their goal: to design a special event imbued with the spirit of the Live Aid Concerts, packing a powerful punch against mental illness stigma!

Don’t miss the Solitary Confinement episode in which celebs who break the House Rules spend eight hours in a bathroom listening to the Enya catalog played in high-fidelity stereo!!!

Watch each Bipolar House guest’s reactions to being placed on the strict vegan diet and detox cleanse made famous by actress Gwyneth Paltrow!!!

“I’ve got the detox blues!”

And in a moving revelation, Tom Cruise announces he has bipolar disorder and explains why he takes fifteen psychiatric medications a day!!!

In the very special Scientology episode, Tom discusses how being a Thetan and signing a billion-year-long contract has helped him cope with his mood disorder.

The superstar closes the hour with a reprise of the song “Old Time Rock ‘N Roll” that made him famous in the film Risky Business. He wears his original costume. (Or lack thereof.)

Guest Appearances by:

Russell Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jim Carrey, Mary Lambert, Axl Rose, Sinéad O’Connor, and Jean-Claude Van Damme singing whatever they’re in the mood to sing about!

The Bipolar House Grand Finale features a spirited singalong of hits including “We Are the World”, The Captain and Tennille’s “Muskrat Love” and the Frozen soundtrack!

Prepare yourself for evenings in front of your television where you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll laugh, and maybe you’ll cry again!!!

By now (or perhaps after you read the title) you’ve guessed this is a joke…
Happy April Fools Day, my friends.
See you next week & have a great weekend!

Dyane Harwood’s memoir Birth of a New Brain – Healing from Postpartum Bipolar Disorder with a foreword by Dr. Carol Henshaw (co-author of The Modern Management of Perinatal Psychiatry) will be published by Post Hill Press on October 10th.

  1. You got me there, Dyane and for quite a while! Couldn’t help thinking what a really interesting idea – and then it dawned on me. Happy April Fool’s Day x

    • I was concerned this post could offend some folks, but I had to override that fear and be myself, you know? And it makes me feel very tickled to know that I had you for a while!!! 🙂 Thanks so much for your comment!

  2. Oh my , see why you are my captain?I was actually drooling quite a bit especially with Tom Cruise and scientology … Much needed respite from Trump sanity or lact thereof lol and oh my own wahalas hahaha

    • I used to like Tom Cruise long ago before he went off on Brooke Shields about how moms suffering from postpartum depression didn’t need meds. My crush evaporated in 10 seconds after he ranted about that.

I can’t even look at pictures of Trump. It’s that bad…..

I’m off to walk Miss Lucy in the redwoods and burn off the mini chocolate bars I stole from Marilla’s backpack last night!
      LOVE YOU!

  3. SO funny, Dyane. I really bought it until the Tom Cruise thing came up. OMGosh! Thanks for this April Fool post. And yes, it got my mind off Trump chaos for a while, too. Oh wait – how about Trump House! Now wouldn’t that be fun to watch! After the impeachment, of course. 😉

    • Susan, you got a BIG laugh out of me about TRUMP House!!!
      That’s a brilliant idea!
Can you imagine? He’d be perfect for it after his Celebrity Apprentice run. (I never watched it….but I know that was his true element.)

And yes, it would take place after the impeachment! A huge wall would be built around the house, location TBA but it would be somewhere not quite so fancy as the White House. Perhaps in Inglewood, CA where I went to school.

The viewers will be amazed to learn that Melania T. is really a state of-the-art robot! And Trump’s true love will be revealed in the “Trump House’s Love Forever” episode!!! He and Caitlyn Jenner are madly in love and they will participate in a “White Wedding” with music superstar Billy Idol, of course!

  4. A television producer actually contacted me about being in a reality show casted by those with mental illness. (No joke) I passed. Don’t need my family humiliated on TV.

    • WOW! Truth *is* stranger than fiction!!!! I don’t blame you for passing, and you’re thoughtful to think of your family too! XoXo

    • Oh yes – it couldn’t be anything else! 😉
(Although truth is stranger than fiction – there are a lot of “reality” shows with far kookier premises – not that I actually ever *watch* them!!!)

  5. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw! This is the first time I genuinely wanted to see Tom Cruise in something! 😉

Thanks you for the lovely laugh, Rockin’ Coffee Queen! xxxxxxxxxx

    • You’re most welcome, my dear!

I really liked his acting in the movie “Jerry Maguire” and how could anyone get his impersonation of the International Man of Mystery Austin Powers in the classic “Goldmember,” but alas! Cruise ruined his allure with his freaky deeky ScientologyAnti-psychiatry predilection!!!! 😱The horror, the horror!

    • I know it was a low blow to include that picture, but it captured the perfect expression of one on a Paltrow-designed vegan diet/detox program!!!! I’m glad you found it funny! 😜 Once again, big congrats on passsing your test – I knew you’d do it, you smart cookie! 🍪 💕

  6. You really got me there – I fell for it lock, stock and barrel. The more I read, the more I felt that it all looked a bit too “glitzy”, so when I realised it was an April Fool’s joke (only at the very end I must say), I just burst out laughing. Thank you for a bit of fun.

    • That’s such a huge compliment which has made my day! :))) So glad you laughed over my kooky post – thanks for letting me know! 😜😘

  7. Well it did have me going for a while there. I especially love the ‘exaplin why he takes 15 psychiatric medications daily’. Sounds like me. I’d be surprised if you couldn’t get it accepted, but maybe hard to get those actors to admit mental illness *giggle*

    • YOU made me giggle with:

“I’d be surprised…to get those actors to admit mental illness” — yes indeed, although nowadays sometimes it seems to me that some celebrities are revealing their mental illnesses for (and I hesitate to write this because it sounds so negative and judgmental) publicity purposes. :0000
I could be totally wrong, though!!!!

      • It’s cool to be crazy lol
I didn’t even blink at TC though- that kid seemed totally legitimate in that series! Thanks for the laughs. I read it again once I realised it was a bluff. I am so gullible!

  8. I am very relieved to find out this was a joke! I was totally falling for it and freaking out. I wouldn’t put anything past Hollywood and reality TV.

    • I’m sorry you were freaking out – but that was a big compliment to read that you believed it for a little bit. 🙂 Take care & thanks for taking time to comment!

  9. Reblogged this on talkandcheese and commented:
This is utterly hilarious! Thank you, Dy, for making me laugh. Even us bipolar warriors can have a sense humour! xx

    • OMG – I’m so happy you got a kick out of it!!!! I’m so honored you want to reblog it – I tried opening the link on your blog but it didn’t work.

Please don’t worry if you had a chance of heart. I know this type of humor is not for everyone! I do!

Another possibility is that we could always save it for a spring reblog and do an April Fool’s joke & say you’re going to be alongside Adam Ant as co-presenter!!!!!!!!!!! I’ll edit out Demi Lovato. (I’m kidding. Well, maybe?) XOXO

      • Dy – I reblogg’d but then thought it was too random as a stand alone and that I’d rather add some sort of intro from me to give it context. It deserves that, it’s awesome! Love it! xxx

      • No worries, my lovely one.I’m incredibly chuffed (awesome word!) that you enjoyed it. I’ve been thinking of you & hope you’re okay. A lot of our bipolar rock ‘n rollers are struggling, including me. I’m good one day energy-wise & mood-wise, not-so-great the next. Last week I started doing aupuncture–I tried it many years ago for knee pain & it worked— if that helps, I’ll let you know! XOXOXOXOX

      • Us bipolar rock ‘n rollers are never allowed to forget our illness. Not a day goes by when we’re not reminded of it in some way, shape or form. I believe we’ve all built up a strength and resilience to fight though, and with the support of our fellow warriors, will always beat the gremlin. Here for you always, Dy. xx
